Opening Days

Monday - Friday

Wow! What a year! Looking back it’s hard to believe all that we’ve accomplished in 2013. We’ve learned a lot of new skills during training courses, we’ve traveled the world and climbed mountains (literally!). We’ve had three marriages, a new baby, two new homes and a new car! We’ve celebrated victories with sports teams that we’ve taped up and cheered on, we’ve got a ton of enthusiastic new staff members and while we are very excited to get started with a brilliant 2014 we’re going to take a moment and reflect on the great year we’ve just finished.

In 2013, Colin Moore (Owner/Physiotherapist) and the rest of the Sports Centre Physiotherapy team welcomed Mitchell Caissy (Movement Rehabilitation, FMS), Amy Carver (Sprague) (Registered Massage Therapist), Nadine Companion (Administrator), Brent MacAdam and Peter Murray (Physiotherapists) and Vicky Roach (Administrator) to the team. We rented additional space to accommodate our Movement Rehabilitation program with Mitch which helps teach people proper and healthy movement patterns. With proper movement patterns people can prevent injuries, improve their physical performance, and have better gains from their training.

During the Spring of 2013 Jenny Dickson (Physiotherapist) climbed Machu Picchu and explored the ancient ruins on one of the seven wonders of the world in Peru, South America. In June, Heather Morrison (Kinesiologist) gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named Edward “Eddie” Vincent Morrison and is currently on maternity leave.

Summer 2013 saw Brent and Peter graduate from the Dalhousie University Physiotherapy program. Mitch became a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength & Conditioning Association and Colin took an Advanced Corrective Exercise course from the FMS (functional movement screen) co-founder, Lee Burton. Great to learn from someone so knowledgeable and get a chance to brainstorm with fitness professionals from the New York area. This summer also marked the 3rd year at Sports Centre Physiotherapy for Joyce Ling (Physiotherapy) and Amanda Gallant (Ford) (Massage Therapy).

During the summer and into the fall we had three team members tie the knot! Amy Sprague married Bryan Carver in August, Amanda Ford married her high school sweetheart, Jonathan Gallant, in September and Mitch Caissy married Mélanie Basque in October. Jenny became a first time homeowner, Joyce bought a new house and Nadine adopted a rescue kitten.

In Autumn 2013, Nadine started her 3rd year in the Kinesiology program and Sarah McCabe (Administrator) started her 1st year at UPEI. Peter traveled to Sweden, Denmark and Germany in September while Amy was honeymooning in Belgium, Netherlands and France into October.

This winter Colin’s favourite saying is ‘Das Auto’ as he became the proud owner of a 2013 Volkswagen Golf, ending his 15 year relationship with his 1998 Honda Civic.

Throughout the year the whole Sports Centre Physiotherapy team has been keeping busy working with local sports teams including Holland Hurricanes football, basketball, volleyball and soccer. Peter is working with the Charlottetown Islanders Major Midget hockey team and Amanda was the Massage Therapist for the Summerside Storm. Amanda was also the head medical coordinator for the Red Island Relay. Colin completed his first ever triathlon in Brudenell and still decided to complete a second in Sackville, NB! Colin also worked on Canada’s best track athletes at the Canadian Track and Field Championships this spring. Amanda, Jess Taylor (Kinesiologist), Jess Pollard (Physio Aide), Amy, Heather, Colin, Brent and Peter all ran in the corporate relay at the PEI Marathon in October and are excited to crush their finish time next year!

In our free time we logged a lot of sporting hours! Mitch, Peter, Brent, and Nadine on the ice playing hockey, Joyce and Amy logging many miles on their snowshoes, Brent, Peter, Jess T., Sarah and Jenny showing them how it’s done on the soccer pitch, Nadine playing Orthodox softball in Kensington, Jess T., and Colin were running, Mitch and Colin were trying to lower their handicap on the golf course and Jess P., Amanda, Amy and Joyce hit the gym.

Wow is right! What a fantastic year! We’re going to have to try very hard to top that!

We hope you have had a fulfilling year to look back on and that you have a lot to look forward to in the year to come. We hope your 2014 is full of health and happiness! Look to Sports Centre Physiotherapy to help you with your sport and health goals and challenges and we’ll do what we do to help by ‘Healing your pain to get you active again’!
